Living room emptying – day one

I got up and went to Garth Hall to open. I put waterproofs on because rain was promised. It rained lightly while I got them on. I let the ducks out and fed Rascal. From the barn, I walked down to the alpacas. The brook was thundering with water today! I got food for the podfield lot and gave Ffion her separate portion. Once again, that little minx Greyce, stared me down when I told her she should be eating from the trough ðŸĪĶ‍♀ïļ I fed the boys next. This was not without incident today.

Vader started eating from a bucket when I’d put one handful in. I was trying to squeeze my handful past his head when he decided to look up. My thumb knuckle and his teeth made contact. Not a lot of pain. No mark on my thumb so I carried on. It wasn’t raining and I was warm so I took my jacket off. I fed and counted the girls then went to check on Colin, Hulk and No-name. I saw the other two but not Colin. I walked further and saw him by the gate where the jail females were on the other side. Steady on, three weeks left to wait young man!

I walked up and noticed how bright white the lambs and silvernoses looked after all the recent rain. I took a quick picture. My last job was letting the Peckys out. They shot out but immediately looked for food. They don’t get fed in the morning if they are free because they will spend all day foraging. I locked up and noticed there was a funny mark on my thumb knuckle that looks like a paper cut, under the skin. Weird! I rushed home then because I had stuff to sort out.

My parquet floor is being sanded on Wednesday and resealed on Thursday so the living room had to be emptied. The Edmunds family (my father, my auntie and to a lesser extent me) have form for being hoarders 😎I have a large living room and all that furniture had to be put in the kitchen and/or the conservatory. I cleared as much as I could. I stacked loads of the cushions on the small conservatory settee. Then the cavalry arrived aka Jordan and Louis. They set about moving my really big unit first. Apparently it was heavy but, as you may be aware, Jordan is known as “truck” so although she said “Christ that’s heavy!” Her and Louis managed. The chairs and settee were more awkward than heavy.

None of the three bloody chairs or the settee would fit out through the patio doors so they’re all in the kitchen. I can’t get at the oven or dishwasher so I’ll likely be washing one plate and one set cutlery by hand for a week 😂 Skye was very confused by it all and did a wee in the empty living room ðŸĪĶ‍♀ïļ I’ve managed to squeeze myself into a corner of the conservatory were there’s and leather chair that belonged to my auntie. (Family of hoarders, like I mentioned) The kitchen table is also there and there’s a small telly on it. I have to squeeze through a narrow gap, by sliding my bum along the window ledge. It’s only going to be for a week. It’s going to be such fun 🙄

At closing time I risked going coatless again. I got the Peckys food and there were six eggs in Barry. They had to lay there when they were confined. Let’s hope they keep this habit up, although I’m certain they won’t. Probably by tomorrow 😂 I put those eggs safely in the truck after shutting the Peckys in Barry. It was the ducks next and finally Rascal. It was starting to drizzle and all visibility had gone meaning there was worse rain heading my way. The rain was lashing down while I was in the barn. I checked the old nest where I’d found an egg yesterday and there was another egg. Im ok with a gen laying there 👏 Just as I stepped out of the barn, the rain stopped! It’s not often the way but it was nice for once.

I’m going to have fun making Sunday dinner tomorrow…
