Baby-sitting stress

My alarm was on for an early start so I could get to the farm in time to have Riley at 8.30. I slept well but I’m not used to getting up at 6. It was still dark so that didn’t help! It was dry as well and forecast to stay that way so I washed a load of lights. That meant socks and they take ages to put out 🤦‍♀️ I was worried I was going to be late. To add to the stress of it, I was the one that had to get the Lewis Capaldi tickets as well. I was stressed 🤯 I opened up Garth Hall as quickly as I could.

I got to Jordan’s and little farmer wasn’t having a good day. He is teething again and not happy. He was a tantruming. On top of that, my phone was open on ticket master, waiting to get in the waiting room. Jordan left after suggesting I put the telly on for him. I found the kids programmes with muted colours to calm him down. Kipper came on and he seemed interested. More importantly it did calm him and I was 1266th in the queue when it opened. Both positives. I got the tickets and couldn’t have been more relieved. That wasn’t the end of my morning though…

Jordan had suggested colouring with Riley. When he was bored with Kipper, I went to the kitchen where the felt pens had been put out of reach. Ally (the dog), had caused havoc in there. All the clean clothes were out of the tumble drier, along with a ripped tissue. I sorted that mess out and turned around to give Riley the pens. He wasn’t there!😯 I looked in some places in the living room where he wouldnt even fit! I couldn’t understand it. I tried the kitchen and spotted him out the back playing at his water table 🤦‍♀️ I dashed out. Both of us were in our socks. I reached him an instant before he would have tipped a watering can of water all over himself. That was close. I got him back in, got the paper roll out, put it on the ottoman and he started colouring. It lasted for 3 mins then he started a tantrum again when I wouldn’t let him colour the rug 🙄 Kipper wasn’t cutting it so I put something else on the telly, which, quite frankly, did my head in. It distracted Riley from his tantrum so I had to accept it.

I needed a wee so we went upstairs. There we were while my phone rang downstairs. Bugger, I was waiting on a call. We went back down and Riley decided he was hungry. I cut an apple for him and he ate part of it OK but then decided he needed to hold all the apple pieces in his hands 🙄 I was on the phone calling back. Not the call I was waiting for but my blinds we ready. I kept my eyes on Riley while I talked. What I didn’t realise was, he was chewing the apple and then spitting it out everywhere so I had to clean that up after the call. He lounged on the ottoman for a while and I thought he was going to drop off to sleep. No such luck. He had a second wind and did his usual rushing about and then fell🤦‍♀️Jordan was on her way and she suggested Calpol. He is very fond of that.

I got it, found the measuring spoon and passed it to him. He majorly kicked off. It seems he wanted the syringe not the spoon. I couldn’t find it so I had to carry him round, while I searched so I could soothe him. I then read a Topsy and Tim book and he kept saying “Mam” to all the women and “Dad” to all the men. I asked him where Riley was, he pointed to himself. “Where’s Nya?” I got a poke in the chest for that, which I loved 😊 When he was calmer, I carried him upstairs where I finally found the syringe. I had just handed it to him, when Jordan came back. My head was thundering with noise and stress.

I wasn’t in the best of moods at that point so driving was an issue 😬 I was way more sweary than usual, which was bad! I was relived to arrive safely at Garth Hall. Amongst all the other Great Escapers, there was an additional grey one. There are more out than in. That one will have to be Donald Pleasance. I’m pretty much out of characters for tomorrow. I’ll probably give in and let them back out. Neil had left a bucket of windfall apples so I put some in the run to reward the ones that stayed in! I didn’t need a coat and I went off on foot to feed the alpacas. I fed without a hitch and walked back up. My mood had improved somewhat but there were still plenty of stupid motorists for me to swear at driving home through Smilog 😉

Neil emailed about a problem at Tregurnog. I tried to put him off while I settled my head but he wanted to sort it. I juggled that while I got my dinner on and cooked parsley sauce. I was supposed to be clearing the conservatory, ready to move the living room furniture tomorrow but I needed to calm down before I brought a migraine on. After a rest, I managed to de-stress.

I went to Garth Hall to close and reversed down as usual. Hundreds of Peckys ran towards me and stood in my way. Eight of the blighters were out 🤦‍♀️ That only left five inside. They’ll be let out tomorrow. There’s no point shutting them in any more! And even worse, there weren’t any eggs either. The sods! I had seen one appearing from a hedge and found a next with 2 eggs in it so at least I had them. They’d eaten the apples before escaping mind you 🙄

Peckys are slightly less stressful than a toddler though…
