It was quiet and quite dark this morning so I had a good sleep. I got up checked in on my father. He said he was a little better but onjy wanted a cuo of tea. I took that up and then walked Skye. I had my breakfast, made Elsie’s bottle and checked back on him. He said he would be up soon so I left for Garth Hall. Elsie heard the car and started complaining from all the way over the field. She drank the full bottle but went back to complaining. She followed me all the way down to the alpacas, still mouthing off about something. When I went in the trailer for Camelibra she went off wandering on her own. Unfortunately she was still complaining off and on. I could still hear her.
I kept a very close eye on El Cap and Popcorn as they’ve been spitting on me a lot. I warned them and put their food out without incident. Until Casper spat on me. Really??? I’m the one that feeds them. Every. Single. Day. The girls are nicer to me. There was enough water and it had been raining. I had time to poo pick. Woohoo! I grabbed the small petrol tank and refilled the poover. With the poover and the quadling on, I could no longer hear Elsie. Bliss. Unfortunately though, I’m still not “match fit” poo picking wise but I did a solid hour and a half. No breaks. I was hoping to have finished the field but unfortunately not. I switched off and put everything away just in time for the rain. I put my thin waterproof jacket on for the walk up but it was too humid so I took it back off.
After dinner I had to catch up on the accounts. I am not a trained accountant. I’ve never had to do anything like this before. My father used to do his own accounts, Josh worked for a financial adviser and put us onto Sage but I have inherited the job. I’m just having a go. On the job training I suppose. I’m not trained. Something not trained or tame is “feral”. So I’m calling myself a feral accountant. I think it fits. I had to put all the walks and visits in, all the payments and all the meat. It took all afternoon. Probably because it was all trial and error. It doesn’t help that I’m working on a tablet, but there we are. Almost all done. I’m just missing a few receipts that Josh assures me are on his desk. I’ve almost caught po with the whole of August even if it did take all afternoon. I’m pleased with myself. September will be easier as I can do things as they come in.
Busy day tomorrow. We have to sort the lambs ready for Blackmill Market on Thursday. And then I got the email. It was from BAS about registering male alpacas. There was mention of a “simple blood test”. Hell no! I know which male alpacas aren’t yet registered. Ghost and Hector. If I try to get a blood sample from them, I know who’ll be bleeding and it won’t be either of those! 🤦♀️
