I picked Ashton up at 9. He didn’t get the message until 8.45 so he hadn’t had breakfast. I set off to go to the bungalow with Skye to collect sheep from that way, Ashton fed Elsie and Josh went off to get the quadling. By the time I’d got a small group of sheep and walked all the way back, Ashton was having a rest. I asked him to send the sheep over to the nursery. My fault, I knew what I meant but he isn’t experienced enough to know so he sent them off a bit and then took himself back off for another sit down 😁
Josh rang me to say he couldn’t start the quadling so we had to do everything on foot. Not good! I then went all the way around the Bedw as well. I was shattered. Ashton wasn’t where we expected him when I came out of the nursery and Josh came up the slope. All the sheep were heading back towards the cabbage field. I went off in search of them (and Ashton) Josh shouted and sat down in the shade and gave up. (Bloody men!) I sent Ashton his way and brought all the sheep back over. Ashton went back over the Bedw and re-cleared that. Then, suddenly, as if by magic, they started going in the wellfield. We had them! The problem was it was now 11am. I was supposed to check Ally but I was excused dog-sitting duties.
I popped home with Skye so she could be in the cool. I put some baguettes in to bake and put the washing on the line. I did us all some food and collected drinks and went back. They had been working away without me. We ate quickly because today we needed to drench (worm) and vectocert (prevent flystrike) We also had to count and separate wethers, rams and hogget from the flock. It took hours. It was hot. Time lost all meaning. We got tired and crotchety with each other. By about 4.30 I went to fill the water and feed the alpacas while Josh and Ashton carried on. The vectocert sprayer broke. I managed to find something else to use. That lasted until about the final 20 odd and that broke as well. After searching in the barn I found another spray bottle which was used to finish off. Finally we finished the main part.
I went to take Ashton home while Josh cleaned the trailer. Then we were supposed to check a few ewe’s feet and take the males down to Tregurnog. After coming back, Josh changed the plan and got cross because I didn’t know his new plan. I’m not a mind reader! Tempers were really frayed. We were hot and tired. His new plan was to take them all down to the spare field by the alpacas. It seemed stupid to me. He hitched the trailer and moved it. It then dawned on him that he didn’t know how to get them in the trailer. I don’t know what he was thinking (nothing new) I suggested keeping them in the paddock over night. That meant getting water but we hoped we would have time to finish off tomorrow (and get ready for the show) Anyway, we put them in the paddock. Josh went in search of buckets and I walked down for the mule and blue barrel so we had water for the buckets. 11 hours. We were shattered.
There were things to do round the house too. I had to do the blog and the click and collect order. There is so much to do tomorrow. But on a positive note – the business cards and leaflets arrived.
