I had a really restless night, for some reason 🤷♀️I was awake for most of it. I did sleep eventually because I woke up in the morning. It was very quiet, but light. I checked my phone 7.38 😯 I still had to come around a bit and got up about 8ish. I rushed round and got to Garth Hall within the hour. James Coburn, the white hen, came over excitedly to see me. I wondered how long she had stayed in the run but had no way of knowing. I let the ducks out and then James Coburn followed me to Barry because I was carrying the bucket of food. She went straight to the two blue pallets making the end of the run. I let her in there. Hmmm. Was that the escape route? I opened the inner door to let the rest of the Peckys in the run. There were 5 eggs which I put in the truck after giving them water. When I put the eggs in the truck, I brought baler twine out. I tied the bottom of the blue pallets shut to stop that gap being used.
I fed Rascal and went off to the alpacas. The weather was nice. I didn’t bother with a coat and I walked down because it was so nice! I’m used to the margarine with Ffion’s food and tablets and although Arwen tried really hard to steal it, she was also the first in the trough. Ffion likes eating on her own I think. She waited by the barriers for me to let her through to her bucket. She is so gentle and shy but trusts me. As I’ve mentioned, it took her a long time to eat hard food. Greyce, her younger sister is just as bad. The little madam sat next to the trough, watching everyone else, including her best butty, Wilma, eating from the trough 🙄 I don’t get it. Why does she think everyone else can eat there apart from her?!?! She’s got a few months left before weaning, but she needs to sort herself out!
I put some ewe nuts in the bottom of the bucket for the girls in the main field. With that in the bottom, the bucket was fuller and heavier. I fed the boys first and for some reason today, Vader behaved and stayed put, eating out of the first bucket! I was so shocked I felt a bit faint 😂 I fed the girls and then counted them all. They all seemed OK so I began the walk back up. I looked over at my favourite oak tree. It’s definitely feeling autumnal but the leaves haven’t turned yet. I’ve got a spectacular photo of that, with the leaves yellow, put onto canvas. Stunning, Not yet this year though. When I got back to the paddock, there weren’t any Peckys to meet me. I was so busy celebrating foiling their escape plans that I didn’t notice James Coburn strolling down the drive towards me until I was seat-belted in the truck. Another fail as far as those flaming Peckys are concerned 🤦♀️
I had a quick dinner and then left to have Riley for Jordan. He didn’t fancy his dinner until I’d put a small dollop of Tommy K (tomato sauce/ketchup) on it. Once he could dip things in that, he ate a reasonable amount. Last time, we played with his blocks for a while. Today he was busy flinging things around and then saying “Uh-oh.” As Jordan said to him later, when he did it again, “Uh-oh is for an accident, not when you do what you like!” He was a little bugger. I had a phone call enquiry for a walk. Taking my eyes of him today was not advisable!
All in all, not much farming today and there’ll be less tomorrow. Neil messaged to say he had collected 3 eggs and there were 3 Peckys wandering around 🤬 Tying the blue pallets shut, didn’t help in that respect at all 😂
