After resting yesterday, I woke up with plans for the day. When I’ve got plenty to do, I get things done. When there isn’t much planned, I can end up unmotivated π€¦ββοΈ I got to Garth Hall as early as I could because I didn’t know when the vets would call. I wanted to clean the duck shed but that has to be done before the Peckys are out because they interfere. I didn’t want to get started on that and get called off so that will now be done tomorrow or Friday. I collected the eggs thst Neil found when he closed yesterday. I also got a bag of alpaca mix from Cai, before I let the Peckys out as well. I released them and went to feed the alpacas.
I rushed through that, expecting to get a call soon. I had trouble finding all the cria but there was one fast asleep, which I filmed. I then took a photo of Wilma and her bestie – Greyce. Always together, those two. It helps me tell the difference between Wilma and Garth Bale π For some unknown reason, feeding in the podfield went to plan. Kylie stayed in her own lane, which is a miracle and Ffion ate much quicker despite having more food today. Excellent. I left then and let myself imto the wellfield. I half filled a water container to give to the Peckys and ducks. Then I reversed into the barn to fill the builders bag with hay. The sun had gone behind a cloud and I had my prescription sunglasses on so it was a bit on the dark side. I spent ages pulling the hay out of its roll within the bale. I’ll be aching from that tomorrow I expect π€¦ββοΈIt’s warm work and of course dusty and itchy. Every time I do it, I remind myself to wear a mask, yet I persistently forget to take one π
When I changed out of my short wellies into my skechers, I tipped almost as much hay out as I’d bagged for the alpacas π I still hadn’t heard from the vets. I rang Josh for a catch up and then went shopping to the poundshops and Pets at Home. Once I got back, I put my dinner on and put the shopping away. After food, I walked Skye and settled down with a cuppa and a biscuit (gluten free chocolate digestive) and topped up the VAT. The vet phoned and she was ready during my click and collect slot π€¦ββοΈ I dropped some bags and a few items into Jordan’s car while her and Riley were in the park. They agreed to get my click and collect.
Off I went and met the vet at Tregurnog. In order to get the VAN (vet attestation number) she needed to check the sheep. Last year, one of the vets came out to the farm to work on an ewe with a prolapse. That meant, they could issue the VAN, once I had shown them appropriate paperwork. So I was new to having them visit like this. She was very nice though and had a student vet so I got to listen to plenty of explanations. She did say that there is plenty of land and it’s not overcrowded with sheep so we shouldn’t need to do much worming. She suggested a fecal check. I’ve done plenty with the alpacas. I might need to break it gently to Neil. But as the vet said, “You’re used to handling shit then?” Yes, yes I am π She said the sheep were looking good. I said were moving more towards Beulah and away from the Welsh Mountain. I also said it wasn’t easy changing things when my father had “advice” to give us. “Yes, he was most definitely in charge wasn’t he?” Ah, she’d met him alright! She said it was years ago. She remembered him well didn’t she? π€£ I locked up then and headed to Jordan’s
Riley was on top form this afternoon so I stayed a little while to get entertained by him. He did not disappoint. He’s recently learned to blow bubbles and a whistle so that was funny. He also went through his repertoire of animal noises. He refuses to do a cat but has introduced snake and lion. His roar was just lush, bless him π I left with all my shopping and unpacked all that while Skye went out the back to play. It was nicer indoors with the ceiling fan on and a cherry magnum lolly π Just as I finished the lolly, dropping a big blob of chocolate on my shorts (that I didn’t notice until later π€¦ββοΈ) I had a WhatsApp message asking where the farm was. I explained that she had to book before coming but she plans to come in a few weeks and was doing a recce first. Phew.
I got to Garth Hall and there has been a second incident of fly tipping. I took a photo to report later. The Peckys came rushing out to see me. They are always pleased to see me in the evening. Not because of me, more because it’s feeding time π€£ By the time I’d opened the gate, Rascal and the ducks were there too. I’m so popular at feeding time π I found two eggs in each of the nests so that was good. I sent the fly tipping report as soon as I got home to make the end of the day productive as well.
