Bank Holiday Monday

I slept! I was up just before 7 to take the bins out but that was ok after a good night’s sleep. Finally! I prepared potatoes for dinner again as there would be another quick turnover. I was at Garth Hall a little earlier than usual. There was a distinct lack of sheep about as I went down the drive. When I opened the truck  I knew why, there was a cacophony of “BAAAA!” There were sheep in the paddock. Neil was doing something with them. I collected the eggs and then hung the sign up. I went to see what Neil was up to. He had ewes in the run. “I’m drenching the sheep!” He shouted over the noise. When he had finished the ones in the run, I had a favour to ask. “I’ve left my phone at home. Can you ring my father please?” We had to organise him to find it, then answer it if it rang and either give out Neil’s number or if it was an enquiry, explain I would ring them back at lunchtime. I had a lovely free morning without the weight of my phone. No one rang me either 😂

My visitors arrived and we had a great morning. The funny thing was, the man said to me “Is it always this loud? Do you have to wear ear defenders?’ I explained that Neil was giving the ewes worm treatment and lambs were separated from their mother’s momentarily. In fact, as we walked passed, he opened the gates. It got louder for a few minutes but quietened as they got reunited. Neil popped down to round the boys up for me. Casper and Popcorn refused to come so Vader and Tex worked again today. I wasn’t able to phone to get the potatoes on so I just got on with things as fast as I could. The minute I’d finished eating, I put my plate in the dishwasher and walked Skye. I dropped her back and said I was leaving to my father “You’d better hurry!” “It’s 1.30. I have to be there before 2.” He then argued with me and insisted it was 1.45. I have no idea what he was looking at to get that time 😂

I hung the sign, unlocked the gate and went to wait for them. They weren’t long and the rain held off. It was mild. There were grey clouds but it was finally beginning to feel like summer was on it’s way. We had a lovely visit. McQueen fed from a hand in the morning but was too wary this afternoon so my visitor gave her handful of food to Tex. He ate it! There were still plenty of girls that came to eat.  They were fed three times yesterday and twice today. The usual suspects: Eden, Betty Boo, Clara/Bernadette and Livia are always happy to eat! We walked back through the nursery and I pointed out some of the fairy doors. They saw the Peckys and then they left. I then had the rest of the afternoon off. I cracked open a non alcohol cider and had a rest for a bit. I’ve been looking forward to a rest for a few days. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it but I wasn’t able to sit still for long. Bonkers I know. After a little sit down, I was looking for something to do 🤦‍♀️

I survived the busy Bank Holiday. You can’t appreciate how pleased I am that there is another one at the end of the month, one that includes school holidays 😉
