Missing lamb

I was still shattered after yesterday. I had walked so much. Luckily Neil checked Garth Hall on his way to work. There was one new lamb. I went slight slower, prepared that every thing was alright and I felt much better. I collected two eggs and then checked the wellfield crew. Still waddling around! Poor things, they must be as frustrated as me. I fed Rascal and then it was time to let Dawn and her little boy out. She was very protective and wouldn’t go anywhere without him. Munchie, of course it was her! Munchie took the opportunity to waddle into the barn through the open gate. She acts like she can’t move but she can’t half shift when she wants too. She went to the hay first but then went to a quiet corner. By then, I had manged to get Dawn and son out of the pens into the main barn area. I had to shooMunchie towards the gate, she gave me a disgusted look and waddled out. Dawn and son followed her. To be honest, I think she was hoping to be the sole occupant of the birthing suite (barn) If she goes into labour, she can but its not open to slackers.

Next I checked around. It was soooo windy I had to wear my pink fur lined hat with ear flaps to protect my ears. Too much wind gives me ear ache as well as being cold! I saw the new one. A real cutie. I got up behind it and noticed testicles. Another ram lamb. That makes 6:1! There were no other new lambs or anything imminent so I went to see the alpacas. I just caught Hennessey doing a poo. I rushed in, grabbed and bagged it. I exchanged a few messaged with Jordan then while getting the food buckets ready. There’s a lot of wheeling and dealing going on behind the scenes setting up our partnership with Visit Cardiff. We’ve got an awful lot to prepare. Jordan is sorting lots of it because, as I said, “It’s more suited to her skill set” It’s definitely that, it’s not that I can’t do it, obviously 😂I fed everyone then and headed back to cross the brook. I paused and listened. It was babbling away and peaceful. I stopped, looked and listened. After all the madness of yesterday, it was relaxing to live in the moment for a while. It refreshed me and I went back for another check around.

There definitely weren’t any new lambs or ewes lambing so I went on my late morning egg hunt. I had a message about a booking and dealt with that. The next job was Tregurnog. I dropped he poo sample off on the way. After Tregurnog,I went to get a tank of fuel for the mule and digger. I picked my father up from the garage as his car was in for an MOT. While I was doing dinner, I booked myself on a camelid reproduction zoom, took a phonecall from Jenkins’s to pay for an order of alpaca mix, dealt with some emails from the solicitor, replied to an enquiry from a school and sorted my father and the firestick out! I counted the eggs and decided to put an advert out for them. I sold a dozen straight away after posting on the estate Facebook group. I’ve sold another dozen to Sarah, who buys lamb from us. I even had a photo of an omelette that my friend made from the eggs she had off me yesterday. Well done to the naughty cluckers.

When I git back to Garth Hall it was sunny but I still needed the hat with ear flaps because that wind was freezing. I went to the airlock first. All the twin mothers were still there, buns still in ovens 🤦‍♀️ I walked around and there weren’t any other new ones. As I was walking up the slope, Neil sent a message on the chat to say hewas locked out so he would be late. I carried on walking up and over to the barn. He was actually earlier than usual. He’ll have to forget his key more often! He passed me the wellfield bucket and I fed them. Several excited hens joined in, eating the broken bits of ewe rolls. Neil fed outfield and announced “There’s a missing lamb!” We looked all around and slo fed the newmother who stayed away with her new baby.  While he was doing that, I checked the lambing list on my phone. I didn’t think there was a missing one.

Weren’t back up and they surrounded the quad, expecting to be fed again. Neil was standing there, looking at them and scratching his head. I looked at my phone list again and recounted. “I’m sure they are all here. “No, there’s another ram lamb with a black face. There should be 2 and there is only one”   I showed him the list on my phone and then the penny dropped with a big thud. “Ah, the other black faced one is the ewe lamb isn’t it!” Yep! 🤦‍♀️

I left then. I put the chickens to bed on my way passed and left him to do some jobs. I was surprised to  see my father’s car back in the drive. It must have passed then. I ahd to put my phone on charge, it had been such a busy day it was nearly dead!

If there isn’t any movement in the twin department I’m seriously considering getting some bombs fitted to each of them!
