I was up at 6.30 on Friday, ready to get another day of poo picking in but I had a message. Jordan was ill and she needed me to ring the Dr for her. Josh had to take over both farms for the day. Jordan’s throat was so bad she was struggling to swallow. But her big brother came to the rescue. Some of Josh’s famous parsley sauce and some mash was the first proper thing she had managed to eat in days. She now has antibiotics so fingers crossed she’ll feel better soon.
Neil spent some time on Friday re-hanging gates, meaning they swing so much better now. He then did some wall repairing, especially between the paddock and wall garden. Munchie can’t jump out of the corner any more 👏👏
With the bad weather forecast for Sunday, we spent part of our Saturday making sure everyone was OK and that there was plenty of feed in the office. Such a shame, the mud was drying out and it was just beginning to get easier to get around the farm again. Typical.
A careful check of the sheep meant we had to dose Penny against worms. Again, bless her. Petra also developed a limp at some point during Friday so she was given painkillers on Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon she was walking better. We also had to put an ewe lamb in the barn for some TLC. Neil is referring to her as Ginger head for obvious reasons. She isn’t quite right so she’s being kept in during the bad weather. She’ll be kept in the wellfield for close observation once the weather improves.
When I got back to shut up the office after poo picking, there was a strange rustling. I peeked around the corner. There was a large ewe lamb practically buried hip deep in an empty feedbag. I collect the empty plastic feed bags to put the alpaca poo in. She must have smelled lingering food odours. She was oblivious to me. I put my welly on one of the front corners halting her progress. I then shouted “Oi!” She stopped at that point and begun rapidly reversing out of the bag. When she finally emerged, I shouted “Boo!” and she ran off. There is a video on Facebook 😁
The outer ring of the alpaca field or jail as we call it houses the rams and the serial escapees. There are 13 in there or there were until Friday. Now there are 12 and one big fat ewe in Pantglas. AGAIN 🤦♀️ We put letters on the ewes last year and she was WW. She is now heavily pregnant so how she got out we have no idea. Surely she’s too heavy to climb walls and way too wide to fit through gaps but there she was looking all fat and smug 🤬
Sunday dawned, wet as promised. But my birthday so I had a lie in and a day off. I went to a spa and had the best massage. I’m raring to go again now and eager to share my present with everyone, once it arrives…
Short one this time. I promised Jordan it would be 😉
