I had a weird dream and so a disturbed sleep. As a consequence, I slept in. I had washing to go on the line so I did that and got to Garth Hall late. Just after I’d unlocked the gate, I heard a quad in the distance so I left the gate ajar. I let the ducks out. I saw Neil wander off into the wall garden. I got the alpaca food and went to feed them. Neil was sorting ratchet straps out. I fed the alpacas and Rascal. They had water left and were still ignoring the small branch of Christmas tree. Neil had already left when I took the bucket back. I walked down to the alpacas. I heard him, or rather the chainsaw when I was still some distance away.
I got the food and began feeding everyone. I noticed that Neil was working on the hedgeline between the main pen and the podfield. I was a bit late to take a ‘before’ photo but I took a few photos before he’d finished. I fed in the main field next and checked the water in there. There was plenty left so that didn’t need replenishing. Neil had finished with the chainsaw and was dragging the thorny branches away. I had to carry all the new hurdles from the pod to the gap in between the two fields where we’ll be working tomorrow. I had to carry 5 hurdles. They aren’t the heaviest but they are large. Emma can carry them two at a time. I cannot 😂 I did a lot of walking. I think the walking made me more tired than the carrying. Neil was heading to Tregurnog and I have loads of paperwork things to do at home. I was optimistic that I could at least make a start on one of those jobs.
Before I could do any of that, I had to stop off in Talbot Green. It was bound to be empty up by the shops. It wasn’t. I’d forgotten about the sales 🤦♀️ I saw a big space, backing up onto a pavement which is what I need to fit the truck in a space. A tiny car got t it before me 🤬 I did find one and managed to reverse in. I got out a few times to check how far back I could go. I don’t have cameras so it’s all done with skill 😉 The truck is far too long so sticks out. From there, I went to the Card Factory. It was packed in there but I found a nice card for Riley. No envelope. I wasn’t going to queue to ask for assistance finding one so I just kept on and on looking until I found one it would fit in. I bought that and then went off to the Post Office. I’ve sold an alpaca fleece blanket so I had to sent that off to Scotland!
Back at home, I got on with dinner and playing with Skye. After eating it and walking her, I got on with one of the other jobs. That took so long that it was time to leave for the farm. It was a little bit lighter as the sun is already starting to set a slightly later. I had a tree to pick up from Mountain View. I found the place and then took it to Garth Hall. I carried it to the jeep and put it in there. I’ll try it with the alpacas tomorrow. If they aren’t interested, the sheep can have it 😂 Rascal followed me and the tree all the way to the jeep so he could tell me that he hadn’t had his tea 😂 I fed him and the peace and quiet was bliss! The ducks wanted me to hurry up with their tea then as well so I did and shut them in. I fed the Peckys on the way out. It was early enough for me to squeeze another job in so I took the Christmas tree down and black bagged it. It’s old and decrepit so it’s time for it to go.
I’m feeling good to have got a few things done today, including preparing for the big jobs planned for tomorrow.
Helen x
